Type Bugs For this exercise, you will create a composition of BUGS using only TYPE as a graphic element. Size: 8” x 10” Resolution: 300ppi Students may choose to use color, scale, text on a path, or modify individual letter forms by using the pen and direct selection tools.   Your composition should contain a minimum of 3 bugs interacting in some clever way . Be creative and have fun.      Your composition must include a background.   The background should reflect the insect’s environment , but can be as fanciful as you choose. (Although it should not dominate the composition.) 1) Brainstorm possible insects you could design with type. 2) Research the details of the chosen insect: wings, body, antennae , eyes, texture, etc. 3) Find typographic analogues for the details that most define the insect. 4) Examine the links below or do your own research to view different styles of bug illustrations. 5) Kee...

Art Generators For the next couple of classes you are going to be exploring Online Art Generators such as   weavesilk.com --a popular OAG and a pretty cool one at that.   There are many more out there though, and depending on your art/design needs or your desire to explore creatively, it's likely that there is something else on the web that will pique your interest. This one caught  my  eye... http://neave.com/imagination/ Your task will be to explore the world of online art generators.   Below is a link to a list of links to a variety of OAG's. Please visit the site and explore the offerings there. Ultimately,  you will be responsible for creating 4 pieces of digital art on 4 different generators.   (Do not limit yourself to the Art Generators found on this one link.  Do your own searching and find something nobody else is using) ***You will also write a brief review of each of the generators you use and y...

Do you feel that this is more of a cautionary story (a warning) or more of an examination of our current social situation? Why? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AW-3P9XWcXk

Silhouettes Silhouettes are a traditional art form, often created by the free-hand cutting of a dark material with scissors or a razor blade.  The effect of a hand-cut silhouette can be easily replicated with the use of the pen tool in Photoshop.  Your next challenge will be to create a composition made entirely of silhouettes.  Choose any kind of subject or scene that you would like, but think about what your composition is communicating and how you can tell a story with just the silhouettes you create. Before you commit to a certain course of action, check out the links below: http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/beautiful-handcut-paper http://cargocollective.com/isabeltalsma/Alice-in-Wonderland http://whitney.org/Exhibitions/KaraWalker http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2012/09/paper-cut-action-silhouettes-by-david-a-reeves/ http://www.beatricecoron.com/links.html Size: 8x10 Resolution: 300ppi Below are some examples...
