Art Generators

For the next couple of classes you are going to be exploring Online Art Generators such as weavesilk.com--a popular OAG and a pretty cool one at that.

There are many more out there though, and depending on your art/design needs or your desire to explore creatively, it's likely that there is something else on the web that will pique your interest.

This one caught my eye...

Your task will be to explore the world of online art generators.

Below is a link to a list of links to a variety of OAG's. Please visit the site and explore the offerings there. Ultimately, you will be responsible for creating 4 pieces of digital art on 4 different generators.  (Do not limit yourself to the Art Generators found on this one link.  Do your own searching and find something nobody else is using)

***You will also write a brief review of each of the generators you use and your experience using it.***  Post your review along with an example to your Blog.

What kind of artwork should you make?

That depends on what the generator can do:

Some will require a lot of finesse, drawing acumen (and an idea of what to draw), and (attainable) skills. Your subject matter is open, but I would suggest that to quantify your experience for the sake of your written reviews, you might want to draw a similar image with each generator in order to compare apples w/apples.

Others, like Weavesilk, can create beautiful images with just a few simple movements of your mouse. In this case the image-making is less of a choice--the generator itself chooses how it will process your actions. It's more about guiding the process through whatever input controls there are, and then recognizing when something visually compelling is happening.  *That's why you need to explore.

If your drawing skills are limited, you might lean more toward those generators that require less finesse and do more of the work.  If you are more comfortable with your drawing skills, you might gravitate towards generators with more robust drawing tools and enhancements that would be difficult to recreate with traditional digital tools.

How will I know which generator does what? *See above.

Bear in mind that it would be possible (in some cases) to start a piece of work in one generator, export it, and bring it into a different generator to affect changes that might not be accessible any other way.

Not unlike using a filter on a filter on a layer effect, etc. It would be possible to create something truly unique and never-before-seen by combining generators. As part of your review, please address whether you can upload to and/or download images from the site.
