6th Project, 4th Quarter "Murals"

Murals

The word Mural originates from the Latin word “murus”, meaning wall. Today, we can define mural art as any piece of artwork painted or applied directly onto a wall, ceiling or other larger permanent surface.

Your challenge is to apply a conceptually relevant mural to an image of a building.

1) Read the short article about murals in the 1st Link below.

2) Examine a few links to mural-centric web pages (next 4 Links below or do your own research).

3) Find and download a copy-right free, high-resolution of a building. (Probably one with a big blank space on it somewhere).

4) Closely examine the building, the style of architecture and the neighborhood. Conceptualize what kind of image would work with the "canvas" you've selected. Look for visual tie-ins that will inform your concept.

5) Find or create the mural image and *apply it to the building using the digital tools you have available to you.

*Placing your mural on a layer above your building layer and putting a slight bit of transparency on the layer can help to let the texture of the building show through.
