Part of what you are being tested on is on how facile you have become with Photoshop as a design tool. 4) Your final result should be posted to your Blog as "Semester 1 Exam" Download the can image below to apply your design to (control-click --> Save Image As)

1st Semester Reflection https://www.pinterest.com/sydneydentist/nature-photography/ Please write a paragraph in response to each of the following as they relate to you and your perception of your class experience:  Quality of Work Effort Participation Improvement Adjustment  Look at the bullet points below each category for specific ideas, but  do not write a list –this should be more of a narrative, describing your thoughts about your work in this class so far. 1. Quality of work · compelling concepts · relevant solutions · paying attention to the objective of the assignment (and taking it further) · proper format and resolution · completing your work on time  · going beyond your first idea(s) 2. Effort · do you look for a convenient solution or do you challenge yourself? · how much do you plan your projects vs. just jumping in and making something? · do you explore variations on your ideas? · do you avoid ideas that you perceive as difficult o...

Fractured Nursery Rhymes http://wildrosereader.blogspot.com/2011/05/monster-goose-spinster-goose-more.html For your next assignment you will  author and illustrate  a "Fractured Nursery Rhyme" such as the one below: Humpty Dumpty sat on a star. Humpty Dumpty started to char. All of the astronauts raced to his side… But when they reached him Poor Humpty was fried! Below are some links to get you started. You can also do your own web research for inspiration, but the writing, or "fracturing", should be yours. Positive & Negative Space Whoaaaaa! 'Change of plans.  While thinking about the 5 Stars Project , I realized how neatly the design requirements of that project fit into an exploration of Positive & Negative space. Please keep all of the work you have done for the 5 Stars Project so far, but we are going to shift gears and then come back to it with a different perspective. To proceed with the the new direction, please watch a couple of the videos below--particularly the 1st one--and come to a basic understanding of Positive & Negative space.  There is a lot of information on the subject available online, so if none of these videos bring you to a practical understanding, do some individual research. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExeekGarOzo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYk_ZXTHdD8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLGwbVonfA4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTCssk47W50 Now, look here for some examples of text-b...

5 Star  (+ LRHS) https://freseniusrx.com/fresenius-kidney-care-tops-cms-five-star-ratings/ Your next project is to combine 2 subjects into a single visual concept.   The first subject is "5 Stars"--as in a 5-star rating. The second subject is Lakewood Ranch High School (and all attendant subjects like "Mustangs" or the LRHS Logo) The design may have multiple colors, but you should include a single-color version in your Blog post. Water Closet Challenge For this challenge you are to design restroom door symbols designating "Men's" "Women's" and  one additional designation of your choice. You may use typography to enhance your design, but the visual should stand on it's own (or this instance "sit" when appropriate.) The post to your Blog should include all three symbols and there should be unifying elements between the three designs that indicate they belong to a set.                                              Jack Brown                                                                                                  ...

minimalism The hardest part of movie-making is editing down the vast amount of footage that you are required to shoot. The hardest part of designing can be paring down your concepts to their most vital elements.   The following web sites contain examples of familiar themes simplified to their basic forms. Please explore these and any others that you find doing your own research: https://www.pinterest.com/chloe5972/poster-cin%C3%A9-minimalist/ http://coolmaterial.com/roundup/minimal-movie-posters/ http://mashable.com/2013/10/19/minimalist-childrens-tales/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/10/minimalist-movie-posters_n_5462715.html Task :  Your task will be to create a  series of 3  minimalist movie posters that are tied together by subject, actor, director, or movies that are serialized (i.e. Star Trek 1-164). Each poster must stand on its own as a complete design solution, yet relate to the others through layout,...

Mutant Me The rumors were true!  What we thought were just jet vapor trails left in the sky, turn out to be fine radioactive mists unleashed by a secret lawless black ops government bent on world domination.  Sorry. The good news is that the levels of radiation we've been exposed to are not lethal. Not lethal, but destructive none-the-less.  Some of your classmates were exposed early--I think it was that field trip to Mote.  Anyway, they have all been exposed and are all enduring, let's say, changes . The authorities are monitoring and documenting the differences in physical appearance which you can see for yourself in the photos below.  Frighteningly, where the real changes are occurring aren't on the outside .  But don't panic, from what we're told, it isn't  that  painful and the changes you will experience in the next few hours, though permanent,  are not lethal . I'm sure you'll adapt. We'll all adapt. It will be OK. Really, i...

Animated gifs http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/5-emotions-invented-by-the-internet-in-gif-form For your next assignment, you will be creating an animated gif   in Photoshop. This is accomplished by exporting a series of layers as frames on an animation time line. Size: 5"x5" Resolution: 100ppi Each layer you add will have slight differences that when played back in sequence, will have the effect of animating your design. The more layers you have and the more subtle your changes are, the smoother your animation will be. The animation you create may be an illustration, a composite of photographs, a graphic or even animated typography. Make it artistic and visually compelling.  (One often successful approach is to think about telling a very short story.) Stick figures and bouncing balls won't cut it. gif Tutorial: http://creativetechs.com/tipsblog/build-animated-gifs-in-photoshop/ gif Galleries: http://sobadsogood.com/...
